# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It tastes like summer actually tastes—refreshing without being aggressively sweet or trying too hard.
  • Ten minutes from idea to glass means you can make it while guests are arriving, not hours beforehand.
  • Naturally vegan and gluten-free without any of that "accidentally healthy" aftertaste that makes you suspicious.
02 -
  • Straining is not optional if you want an elegant drink—skipping it gives you something that looks like cloudy bathwater, which I learned the hard way when I was impatient.
  • The sparkling water temperature matters almost as much as the watermelon itself; warm or room-temperature bubbles on top of cold fruit tastes distinctly worse.
03 -
  • The best watermelons sound hollow when you tap them and smell sweet at the stem—don't rely on color alone or you might end up with a mealy disappointment.
  • Keep your sparkling water in the coldest part of your fridge or even in the freezer for the last few minutes before serving, because warm bubbles on cold fruit is a betrayal of the entire concept.
